A word from Mondrian…
Here are the steps to help:
1) First check out what Mondrian’s Art looks like. Click HERE to view his work. Mouse over each piece of art to see what Mondrian has to say about it. Don’t forget to mark things off on your PROGRESS TRACKER!
2) Think about these questions as you look at Mondrian’s art to guide your learning:
- What shapes do you see in Mondrian’s art. What shapes don’t you see?
- Notice the lines between the shapes. Are they always the same
- What are his typical colors? What other colors are less often used? What colors would you use to make it look like Mondrian’s art?
- The two “Boogie Woogie” paintings have a different kind of line between the shapes. What do you notice about it?
- Think about combining different elements from these paintings to make your own painting. Use the Rubric to guide you.
3) Watch this Artist Instruction Video to show you how to create your piece of art and instruction sheet.
4) Make a coordinate plane on a piece graph paper. Put a scale on the x axis and y axis.
5) Draw your Mondrian-esque art on a coordinate plane. Be sure to look at the Artist Rubric below!
6) Write out step-by-step instructions for each of the shapes and lines that need to be drawn. Start by telling how to make the coordinate plane and scales. Be specific about color of the lines and shapes, and how thick to draw the lines, etc.
7) When you are done you will have:
-
Your piece of art on a coordinate plane.
-
Typed instructions that tell how to draw your piece of art.
When you are done, move on to the next step, Part 5: Collaboration!
